New masterplan for Loch Ken to be unveiled on June 23

A masterplan for a Stewartry beauty spot will be unveiled later this month.

The Loch Ken Plan is the culmination of two years of work to look at how the Loch Ken Trust can promote the area’s natural, cultural and recreational assets for the benefit of the public as well as supporting sustainable communities.

It will be launched at Crossmichael Memorial Hall next Thursday.

Loch Ken Trust officer, Barney Fryer, said: “The Loch Ken Plan is all about trying to imagine how we can improve life round Loch Ken for everyone, local and visitor alike.

“In these challenging times, with an uncertain future ahead of us, it is about how we work together as a community to build a better future for us all.”

Loch Ken Trust was formed by communities around the loch in 2020. As a new charity, a plan was needed – but forming it was made more difficult due to the coronavirus pandemic.

One consultation event was held in January 2020 with the rest having to be held online.

The plan aims to guide the work of the trust over the coming decade and is built around the framework of the United Nations’ 17 sustainable development goals – known as Global Goals – aiming to make them relevant to everyone in the community.

The Loch Ken Plan aims to make the trust the world’s first future ready community – a community that is on track to achieve all 17 of the Global Goals by 2030. The plan sets out the priorities under three themes – people, prosperity and planet. To find out more and pick up a copy, head to Crossmichael Memorial Hall at noon on Thursday.
