Maya Jama is set to bag another presenting role at next year’s Brit Awards, it has been reported.
The 28-year-old is being lined up for the prestigious job after impressing bosses at the Brits earlier this year. She reported at the ceremony alongside main host Mo Gilligan.
The Brits will take place on February 11 at London’s O2 Arena. Jama would be the first woman to host the show since Cat Deeley in 2004.
Jama has been newly appointed as the host of Love Island, which starts up again in January 2023, and so she’ll certainly be busy should she agree to host the music awards the following month.
An insider told The Sun: “Maya Jama has proven to be a really confident and competent host and young people love her, which is key for an event like the Brit Awards.
“Since she helped out earlier this year, her star power has risen and she has been in talks about hosting the show on her own.”
They continued: “There are plenty of contenders vying for this year’s job as the show’s host and nothing has been signed – but Maya has made it clear she would love to take on the role.
“She has a lot of people backing her, too – she’s clever, attractive and is great in front of an audience.”
Before Gilligan, 34, took on the hosting reins, the Brits were hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall for four years. Previous hosts have included Ant and Dec and James Corden.
Jama has carved out an impressive presenting career, having worked on BBC Radio 1 and hosted Simon Cowell’s game show Walk the Line and Peter Crouch: Save Out Summer, among other programmes.
The new Love Island host was announced in the role earlier this month, replacing Laura Whitmore, who quit the job after two years.
“I’ve always been such a massive Love Island fan and I’m so excited to be hosting one of the nation’s favourite shows,” Jama said of her new gig. “I can’t wait to get into the villa to meet all of the islanders.”
She shared a video of herself sitting next to a Love Island suitcase following the announcement, along with the caption: "The rumours are true. Seeeee you on the island honeysssss".
