New Love Island contestant Ryan Weekley 'repping for the gingers' as Casa Amor returns

ITV's ever-popular Love Island is back for another series, which started last month. Now, a group of new contestants - six boys and six girls - have arrived in South Africa to really shake things up.

Love Island’s current couples have been split into two groups and sent to separate villas as Casa Amor returns for another year. Each year, the girls are sent off to a new villa to meet six new boys, while the six original boys get to know six new women at base camp.

Among the six new boys joining the current series of Love Island is Nottinghamshire’s own Ryan Weekley, who says he intends to be "grafting straight away" on the show. But what do we know about him?

Who is Ryan Weekley?

Ryan Weekley is one of the new contestants on Love Island. He entered Casa Amor this weekend as one of 12 new contestants - six boys and six girls.

The 22-year-old is originally from Nottinghamshire and works as a steel erector. Ryan, of Newark, grew up in the quiet village of Balderton where he attended primary and secondary school. Since it was announced he would be joining the show Ryan has been getting a lot of support from the local community who are excited to see him on their television screens and eager to see him go on to the main villa.

Ryan said before entering Casa Amor that he was “excited to go in there, have fun and hopefully find a nice girl”. When asked what sort of Islander he was going to be, he said he would be “funny and bring good energy”, adding that he’d be “cheeky as well”.

He also joked that he would be “repping for the gingers” on the ITV2 reality series. "I like to play it cool, I’ll let a girl know if I’m interested but I’d never put pressure on anything. I do like eye contact, Tom’s been doing it a fair bit in there and the girls seem to like it,” he explained.

Ryan added that he already had his eye on one Love Islander. He said Samie was “great to look at and I think we have the same interests”, adding they both enjoyed travel and that he’d “love to travel around the world with her”.

Love Island airs nightly at 9pm on ITV2. Episodes are also available to watch via ITVX, the new streaming service.
