Shamal George admits he knew little about Livingston prior to signing for the club - and has described his expected debut against Rangers today as the biggest game of his career.
The 24-year-old moved from Colchester United for a fee of £87,500 last week - the second largest sum the club have paid for a player.
And the new no.1 is determined to repay the faith shown in him by Lions boss David Martindale.
He said: “The gaffer’s shown belief in me so I just need to repay him. I’m very thankful for it and hopefully I can repay him on the pitch.
“He’s going to help me as much as he can on things I can improve on. It’s more in the shop window and it’s a massive opportunity for more clubs to look at you. It’s a tough league.
“I didn’t know a whole lot about the club. I knew Adam Lewis who was here last season and Morgan Boyes was a year younger than me at Liverpool but we trained together quite a few times.
“I Googled and researched as much as I could about the club. Straight away I couldn’t say no.
“Livingston obviously play teams like Rangers, Celtic, Hearts. Compared to League Two, it’s a massive step in my career. I couldn’t say no to it.”
The former Liverpool youth product was the Gers’ run to the Europa League final last term having no clue he’d be having to pit his wits against them a few months later, but it’s a challenge he is relishing.
He added: “I’m looking forward to it, it’s the biggest game of my career.
“Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup was probably my biggest game before but this is one that will be memorable for me.
“It’s crazy how football works. I was watching the game against Dortmund earlier in the week just trying to see how they play but it’s going to be a whole lot different when you’re on the pitch against them and there’s three stands of their fans.
“It’s going to be crazy but I can’t wait for it.”
