A brand new library and community hub are coming to Hale Village. The new state-of-the-art library and community centre are rapidly taking shape following the start of construction this year.
Planning permission for the development on Ashley Road was granted by Trafford council in 2021 to ensure a library service was retained in Hale and a new community hub is created for local residents and businesses.
The library will be located on the first floor of the new building on the pavilion site and the ground floor will provide accommodation for Hale Bowling Club, along with community facilities including new public toilets and a café. New homes and commercial space are being created on the former library site on Leigh Road as part of the development scheme.

The new library will be just under 3,000 sq ft and will have all the facilities of a modern library; books, computers, Wi-Fi, activities, events and staff on hand to help.
Under the revised development proposals, the current Hale Library has temporarily moved into the former RBS building on the corner of Ashley Road and Victoria Road in Hale.
This will allow for the construction of the new library and community centre on the Hale Bowling Green Pavilion site and the former library on Leigh Road to create new homes and a retail outlet to be carried out simultaneously.
Grahame Elliott, chairman of Hale Community Trust, said: “Hale Community Trust has been a key driving force behind these proposals for a number of years and we are delighted that the work has now started.
“We believe the new library and community centre will contribute significantly to Hale’s economic growth while enhancing local community services which will include new community event spaces and improved facilities for bowling club members, residents and community groups.
“We are looking forward to working with developers Westshield and Trafford council to create a new thriving library and community centre for Hale.”
Coun Liz Patel, Trafford council’s executive member for culture and leisure, said: “This is very exciting news and I’m so pleased that plans for a new modern library in Hale are progressing. This library will be an asset for Hale village and will be a really important community space.
“As well as the opening of the new library, this scheme will also see new homes being built and a new community centre for everyone in the area to enjoy. We will be working very closely with Hale Community Trust and the developers to ensure this scheme is a huge success.”
