New Leeds Bradford Airport parking fines for drivers who stop on double red lines

Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) has announced new fines to ensure the safe use of its roads and car parks. The airport is issuing new warnings to drivers who stop, park, or wait on new double red lines throughout the airport.

Effective from May 27, LBA will be issuing £100 fines to those who breach the new measures. The airport says the new rules are in place due to increasing congestion, which is causing blocked lanes and creating safety risk and delays for emergency vehicles responding to incidents at the airport.

The new measures will bring LBA in line with other airports in the UK and they have said that the main reason for these changes is passenger and traveller safety. Drivers who tailgate other vehicles out of car parks in an effort to avoid payment could also face £100 fines as well as those occupying more than one bay or using disabled bays without appropriate authorisation.

Damian Ives, Chief Operating Officer at LBA said: "The last thing we want to do is to issue fines, but safety is our primary concern. These changes are being implemented to ensure the well-being of passengers on the roads and car parks on the airport’s land, by reducing unsafe vehicle behaviour and limiting the risk of an accident.

“We encourage any passengers coming to LBA to use the ‘One Hour Free’ zones or our ‘Pick Up and Drop Off’ when driving to the airport, or alternatively the Flyer bus services. LBA also offers a wide variety of parking options to suit all of its customer needs.”

Public signage detailing these changes will clearly mark the affected areas. Any fine paid within 14 days of the violation with be reduced to £60 from £100.
