New Kilmarnock restaurant to open at former Merchants building

The building that once housed a popular Kilmarnock restaurant is to re-open tomorrow.

Merchants closed its doors for the final time in July 2012 with owners Alisdair and Debbie Hood saying at the time that they want to spend more time with their kids.

Now, more than seven years on, the Queen Street venue will re-open with new owners tomorrow lunchtime.

The new restaurant is called Kooshy's and is described as a diner and dessert parlour.

The details of the new eaterie's menu is under wraps for now but the restaurant has said that they make their own gelato ice-cream and Belgian waffles.

Owners say that "world famous gelato chef Momo from Dubai" even trained staff at the restaurant too.

Savoury options include: cajun chicken linguine pasta, homemade lasagne served with garlic ciabatta bread and nachos.

Kooshy's opens tomorrow at 12 noon.
