Jaguar is going through an electric revolution by dropping all gas cars to become an EV brand. It's also moving upmarket by improving quality, raising prices, and making fewer cars. It all starts with this–a stately grand tourer previewed by the Type 00 concept we saw in December. A prototype has now been spotted roaming the streets of Spain. Despite the extensive camouflage, the GT can't hide its large footprint.
The imposingly long hood may beg for a V-8 or even a V-12, but no combustion engine powers this test car. Jaguar's Managing Director Rawdon says high-end buyers barely care about what powers their luxury cars. There's certainly no cat purr from the prototype, only artificial noises produced by a sound-emitting device that has been mandatory on EVs in the European Union for several years. Aside from gaining side mirrors to replace the concept's cameras, the electric Jag now has rear doors, too. Although the car is absolutely massive, the rear doors are not that big.
Like the concept before it, the prototype doesn't seem to have a rear window, echoing the Polestar 4. The roof has a large cutout in the camouflage, presumably for a rearview camera. Jaguar can legally get away with skipping the rear glass, but it still must install the mandated third brake light. It sits unusually low, at the base of where you'd typically find the glass.
We're not entirely sure, but the prototype appears to have a more practical tailgate rather than a traditional trunk lid. Either way, accessing the cargo area seems cumbersome since owners will have to do a lot of lifting. Jaguar's test vehicles give the impression that they're not as curvaceous as the concept, although the extra camo could be playing tricks on us.
Eagle-eyed readers will notice that this spy video features two different prototypes. One has fake door handles that stick out from the body, while the other reveals production-ready flush door handles. The flap for the charging port on the front-right fender looks gigantic, but that may be because the camo cutout is larger than it needs to be. There might also be another charging port on the other front fender.

Slim headlights and taillights peek through the disguise, while the greenhouse is quite small for such a large vehicle. Unless a giant panoramic sunroof lets the light in, the cabin could be rather dark. But how big is the majestic EV anyway? The British brand didn't mention the concept's dimensions, only saying it had a 3.2-meter "spine" that split the cabin in two—that's 126 inches. Given the sheer length of the hood, we can safely assume the car is well over five meters (196.8 inches) long, so think BMW 7 Series or Maybach S-Class.
We're sure other changes compared to the concept are hiding beneath the camouflage. Whatever the case, the production version will look interesting, even if it won’t be as dramatic as the Type 00. Jaguar's bold move of kicking off the EV revolution with something other than an SUV is a pleasant surprise. It had planned to roll out an electric XJ, but that electric flagship was canceled in favor of this swoopy GT.
The production version will be officially revealed near the end of the year before hitting the assembly line in the UK. Deliveries start in 2026, with even the base model likely to cost over $100,000.
