New ITV 'middle-aged' Love Island show could be launched

If you are sitting on the sofa watching the 20 somethings on ITV's Love Island and thinking that you don't have a chance of appearing on this or a similar style dating show then think again. ITV is reportedly set to launch middle aged Love Island.

Reports suggest a brand new series is coming from the show and the producers are looking for middle aged contestants who have what Birmingham Live is calling 'normal bodies'. Those in the 40s and 50s are said to be in with a chance of appearing on the new show.

The news comes on the back of indications that there will be two series' of Love Island next year; the regular summer version and also a winter edition that will be set in South Africa. So what can we expect from the new show?

The new edition of the show, a source told the Sun newspaper, would be looking for a new criteria of Love Island contestant. They said: "Times change and the current generation in their 40s and 50s still care about how they look, are fit and healthy, into fashion and are ready to let their hair down".

Speaking about ITV's plans for a new show, the source continued: “This show will give those who settled down young a second chance at love while they still feel in their prime." Adding: “And, let’s face it, they know their minds, will be capable of intelligent conversation and are likely to be much more adventurous — all ingredients regular Love Island sometimes lacks.”

The current Love Island series is currently dealing with the aftermath of revelations from Movie Night and challenge "Snog, Marry, Pie" challenge. More drama is sure to follow as four new Love Island bombshells enter the villa including Halifax striker Jamie Allen. The 27-year-old professional footballer will join the series alongside new contestants Reece, Lacey and Nathalia.
