New ITV Love Island planned for age 30-50s people with normal bodies

ITV's Love Island has had an impressive summer with more people tuning in for the first time and record breaking ratings. However, there are some things about Love Island which we can't get on board with.

The normalising of the thong-bikini, for example. And the relentlessness of the boys' six packs. To be frank, it's putting us off applying for next year's season. But hang on a minute; a summer of love could still be within reach for us more normal looking people.

The team behind Love Island is reported to be planning a new series, similar to the Love Island we know and love, but this time featuring middle-aged people with 'normal bodies'. The ITV2 show has, until now, featured mostly late teens and people in their 20s. The gorgeous, honed and veneered Ekin-Su is one of this year's oldest and wisest mentor characters, and she's 27.

But the new show will feature people who look more human, with less veneers and more material in their swimsuits. They after all, deserve love too.

A source told The Sun : “Times change and the current generation in their 40s and 50s still care about how they look, are fit and healthy, into fashion and are ready to let their hair down. This show will give those who settled down young a second chance at love while they still feel in their prime."

The source added: “And, let’s face it, they know their minds, will be capable of intelligent conversation and are likely to be much more adventurous — all ingredients regular Love Island sometimes lacks.” OK! magazine has approached ITV for comment.

This outrageous new idea for a show full of intelligent people who can talk about things other than their preferred "type" comes after comments that those who go on Love Island don’t set a realistic example of what people’s bodies look like, with many contestants going through gym transformations and “tweakments” beforehand. Ex Love Island star Rosie Williams recently admitted that spent “thousands” ahead of her debut.

She told OK: "As soon as I heard that they were interested, it dawned on me that this wasn’t just a bit of fun – I might actually appear on the show. I needed to prepare myself for that possibility.

“From then on, everything I did was with Love Island in mind. The first thing I did was amp up my exercise routine and start going to the gym every day. I also started to eat better so that I wouldn’t feel bloated if I entered the villa.”

Rosie added: “I rushed to get the rest of my beauty treatments booked in. I spent the time I had left getting pre-bonded hair extensions, having semi-permanent eyelashes applied and getting my nails done.”

We'll keep you posted. See you at the auditions.
