New ITV Good Morning Britain presenter Gordon Smart divides viewer opinion after debut

There is a new face on ITV's Good Morning Britain (GMB) and while it is still very early days, fans of the show have already made their opinions known. Some just can't make up their minds about the new addition based on his past.

Gordon Smart made his debut on the show today, Thursday, December 29, but it appears that a number of viewers have already taken issue with some of his former jobs.

Gordon is a former journalist and was editor of The Scottish Sun. He joins the list of presenters for the programme, which includes household names Susanna Reid, Ranvir Singh, Richard Madeley, Kate Garraway, Ben Shephard and Martin Lewis.

As the 42-year-old made his debut, viewers were quick to share their thoughts on his skills via social media. Some viewers taking to Twitter said: "A breath of fresh air, Gordon is very chill and easy listening too. Good luck."

Another agreed adding: "Rather enjoying Gordon’s style of presenting. Confident, calm, professional - and a bit of a twinkle in the eye. Heck of a lot better than most other male presenters on #GMB (no names mentioned)!". A third person joined in: "Good to see fellow Scot, Gordon Smart presenting. Award winning and laid back guy who, unlike other presenters, has the experience to engage viewers and do the job." Summing up, another succinctly wrote: "I think he is really good."

Yorkshire Live reported that Gordon said he was "thrilled" to be joining the team. He said: "I’m thrilled to be joining the amazing stable of talent, in front and behind the camera, on Good Morning Britain. So many of the issues facing the country right now are close to home and I’m relishing the chance to join the debate.”

However, not everyone was singing his praises after discovering his previous jobs. One wrote: "New presenter on GMB. Seems a nice chap, a bit quietly spoken. Then we're told he's from the Sun."

Another said: "Oooh look a new presenter. *discovers he’s a Sun reporter*." Another added: "Good morning, just got up, made coffee, switched on GMB heard the words and now a new presenter, previous editor of Scottish Sun. Switched straight off!! Read the room!"

  • Gordon Smart will also present the show on Friday from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
