New India knows how to protect its borders, keep people safe: Adityanath

Affirming that India was capable of defending its borders, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said the BJP government at the Centre had dealt with all internal and external security threats to safeguard the citizens. Mr. Adityanath said no one could shelter the terrorists now without facing the consequences.

Mr. Adityanath made the remarks while addressing election rallies in support of the Bharatiya Janta Party’s candidates in Bharatpur, Daus and Sikar districts of Rajasthan. He said those who sheltered terrorists in the past would not dare say anything against India now for fear of “airstrike”.

The senior BJP leader was referring to a report carried by British daily The Guardian claiming that the Indian intelligence agencies were involved in targeted killings across the border in Pakistan. “We don’t know how credible the newspaper report is but the new India knows how to protect its citizens and defend the international borders,” he said.

Mr. Adityanath said it was possible that India might have killed the terrorists across the border, as it was capable of neutralising the security threats on foreign soil. “Our borders are safe under the BJP rule. The threats of Naxalism, terrorism and extremism have ended,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution by the Narendra Modi government had also contributed to the end of terrorism within the borders of the country. “However, it was the Congress which used to feed biryani to terrorists when it was in power,” he said in an apparent reference to the treatment meted out to Pakistani terror convict Ajmal Kasab in Mumbai.
