New Home Bargains store to open in Lanarkshire this weekend, creating 44 jobs

A new Home Bargains store is opening in Hamilton this weekend creating 44 local jobs.

The shop will be officially opened at 8am on Saturday, March 12 after a £1m investment at its site within the Palace Grounds..

In total, the store will employ 63 team members, including some staff and management who will be transferring from local stores.

The store will also be donating £2000 to local charity, Lanarkshire Association for Mental Health (LAMH) which provides community-based mental health services throughout the region.

This includes offering training to local businesses, running a charity shop, providing a mental health information service in Hamilton and a community café and wellbeing centre in Wishaw.

Hugh Cairns, chief executive at LAMH said: “This fabulous donation will go towards supporting valuable work in assisting those with mental health issues and challenging the stigma that still surrounds this subject.

"We are delighted to receive this donation.”

The new Hamilton store will join over 575 outlets across the UK.

Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry.

Scott Wylie, the new Hamilton store manager, said: “I started my Home Bargains journey three years ago as a manager, after working for Tesco for over 15 years in a managerial position. I am moving to this new Hamilton store from Forge Retail Park, and I’m delighted to be part of this new team.

“There’s nothing quite like the buzz of opening a new store. A lot of hard work and dedication has gone into the new site, and I can’t wait to open its doors this weekend alongside such a fantastic team. I am exceptionally proud of everyone.”

The 16,867 sq. ft store, which formerly housed Poundstretcher, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

Scott Wylie added: “Hamilton will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

With more than five million customers each week, Home Bargains is one of the country’s best-loved discount retailers, stocking top-quality branded goods at low prices.
