A new gel for people with erectile dysfunction has been placed on UK shelves. The treatment gel works within 10 minutes and does not need a prescription to buy.
Called Eroxon, it is available over-the-counter in Boots stores across the UK and Ireland for £24.99. Experts have hailed the drug as a 'break through' and it was discovered by accident when it was used as a placebo for trials of another gel treatment for erectile dysfunction.

The gel works by applying it to the head of the penis where it stimulates vascular and neural nerve endings by rapidly cooling and warming the area. This triggers the release of nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels, increases blood flow to the penis and leads to an erection.
As reported in the Mirror, erectile dysfunction (ED) medicines such as Viagra, Cialis and Levitra, known as PDE5is, work on the same nitric oxide pathway. But because they are taken orally, they dilate blood vessels throughout the body and this can cause a wide range of side effects including migraines, nausea and dizziness.
Recent studies have shown that a surprising number of young men in their 30s have reported struggles with erectile disfunction. In 2018 a report by Coop Pharmacy revealed that men in their 30s were the most likely to struggle with erections with 49% blaming stress and 24% blaming it on alcohol abuse.
The report which questioned 2,000 men also found that a third of men aged 18-60 who were surveyed say that they have not told anyone about their erectile dysfunction.
