A new Greggs bakery looks set to open in Swansea's Blackpill area. Motor Fuel Group Limited has asked Swansea Council for permission to create a single storey rear extension to accommodate a new food unit at Mumbles Service Station, along Mumbles Road.
Along with its petrol and diesel pumps, the service station already has a Londis shop and a Subway food to go service, meaning the new Greggs, if approved by city planners, will only add to the facility's offerings. It would create eight new full-time jobs, and six new part-time jobs.
The plans, which are being lodged to "accommodate the changing needs and aspirations of consumers", would also include the extension of the existing Subway restaurant and minor forecourt works. Get Swansea stories straight to your inbox with our newsletter.
Planning documents submitted by Wyeth Projects Services on behalf of Motor Fuel Group Limited read: "The service station comprises a small brick-constructed garage/shop, Londis, with pitched tiled roof and modern fascia sign. The Londis offers food to go as well as coffee to go services. The site is also home to a Subway food to go service.
"The application scheme proposes to extend the current forecourt shop building to create a larger retail space. This space will include the extension of an already existing Subway, as well as the introduction of a Greggs food to go area, therefore increasing the range of services and food being offered to customers. To facilitate the extension, minor forecourt works will take place. There include adjustments of curb lines, and the addition of a new, larger refuse compound area for waste and refuse.
"Enhanced retail shop merchandising together with food-to-go and beverage facilities is a major trend within a modern service station which must evolve in response to accommodate and meet the changing needs and aspirations of consumers."
Swansea Council's planning committee will now consider the application.
