New Glasgow Nico 'cake shop' plans for Byres Road considered by council

Byres Road could soon have a new addition to its food and drink scene with the potential opening of Nico Simeone's latest project.

Glasgow City Council planners are currently reviewing plans to alter the shopfront at 331 Byres Road in the heart of the west end.

Formerly home to a Vodafone store, the unit has been covered in purple branding bearing the word 'JOOS' since last summer, directing people to the HOME-X website, one of the food ventures run by the chef behind the popular Six by Nico restaurants, Nico Simeone.

And an application for planning permission recently made publicly available on the Glasgow City Council's online planning portal shows the council are currently considering a move to decorate the current shopfront, under the project name of 'Nico Simeone Cake Shop'.

If given the go ahead, the front of the unit would have a new sign, manual awning and floral display on show.

Glasgow Live contacted the team behind Nico Simeone's restaurants for comment on the plans, however no further information is available for now.

Alongside his successful Six by Nico restaurants, which have been expanded out beyond Glasgow and across the UK, Nico Simeone is also behind the likes of Beat 6 in Dennistoun, the new Chateau-X steak restaurant in Finnieston and the Home-X home food delivery concept, which was founded during the pandemic.
