New Glasgow city centre restaurant gives curry to homeless people every week

A new Glasgow city centre restaurant has been praised for donating curry to feed the homeless every week.

Taste of Chennai on Sauchiehall Street, which serves south Indian cuisine and opened earlier this year, has been giving the weekly bucket of curry to the Homeless Project Scotland (HPS).

They also agreed to offer the charity a function space to use for fundraising events.

Chairman of the Homeless Project Scotland Colin McInnes, who set up the organisation to provide a hot meal and support to those in need under central bridge from 8pm onwards every night, thanked the owners for their ongoing support and commitment to helping the homeless.

He said: “The restaurant has supplied curry sauce to us for the last couple of weeks. They also supplied us with chicken tikka and other tasty treats.

“This is an ongoing arrangement we have every week. They are a brand new restaurant and they have supported us since before they opened.

“I would like to thank them for their support and their ongoing support. At the moment we have been given enough to provide 200 meals a week.

“I think it is remarkable that a restaurant owner who has obviously shelled out a lot of money to open up a restaurant is giving rather than receiving.

“He has just opened his doors and wants to help feed the homeless. I would appreciate it if people would go and dine in his restaurant to show support to him for showing support to us for helping the homeless.”
