New gaming arcade and gadget shop set to open at Royal Quays in North Shields creating 15 jobs

A new gaming arcade and gadget shop are opening at a shopping centre in North Tyneside.

Work is under way to set up the Arcade Warehouse at the Royal Quays Outlet Centre in North Shields, which is expected to open to the public in the first week of March.

The venue, around 7,000 sq ft in size, promises to offer family entertainment with a string of retro and modern arcade games, PCs, consoles, virtual reality (VR) sets, pool, air hockey and basketball.

Entry will be £8.95 for two hours and all machines will be set to free play, so people can play as much as they want during their time slots. The site will also offer party packages.

Meanwhile, a gadget shop - My-G Gadgets Gizmos and Gaming - will open just a few doors down at the Royal Quays centre on February 1. Together, both venues have created around 15 jobs.

Caton Airey and business partner Dan Rees, who are behind the venture, first started out in Scunthorpe, where they have an IT business.

They expanded and opened a gadget shop and arcade in Scunthorpe, later launching another one in Lincoln.

Caton, 37, said: "We were looking for places where we could open an arcade and the Newcastle area was always on our radar.

"This site at Royal Quays came up and we loved it. So we decided to open the arcade here as well as a gadget shop in another unit."

He said the new venues would help to attract more people to the area, which also has Inflata Nation and Gutterball Alley nearby.

"The arcade will have something for every age group," he added. "It's just a great way to get the family out, all playing together.

"There are already other leisure venues in the area and the arcade will add to that, offering something different, and a chance for people to come to Royal Quays and enjoy a whole day out."
