New footage shows Bears’ front office cheering after the Falcons drafted Michael Penix Jr.

How badly did the Bears want to nab wideout Rome Odunze in the first round of the NFL Draft? The video speaks louder than words.

New behind the scenes footage of the Bears’ front office on draft night shows how much tension was in the room as the franchise waited to see who would be available to take with their No. 9 overall pick.

You can hear the execs and general manager Ryan Poles trying to game out who each team will select before them as they circled in on Odunze, but the only thing that truly broke the tension was Atlanta’s surprise pick of quarterback Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8 overall.

As soon as the pick was announced, the front office started celebrating, knowing they were in the clear to grab the wideout.

Could this just end up as more motivation for Penix? Sure. But the Bears probably see it as Atlanta clearing the lane for Chicago to get everything it wanted out of the first round.
