New food store a 'good fit' for popular Sneinton Market

A new food store will be a 'good fit' next to a popular Nottingham market, according to local residents. The former Murat supermarket in Gedling Street, in Sneinton Market, has been turned into a vegan store, with new branding fitted on the large unit.

There is no sign yet of when the new vegan shop, which has been named 'Lime Green Organic Vegan', will open. The previous occupier, Murat food centre, recently relocated to Bath Street on the other side of Sneinton Market.

People in the area thought the new vegan store would fit seamlessly into the area. Stephen Craighill, 55, who lives in Sneinton and works in the TV industry, said: "It will fit in here, it is good to see so much going on here in [Sneinton Market] after it was closed for so long.

"It will be a good fit with the atmosphere around here as it is popular with young people and there are lots of students. Although I'm not vegan, Nottingham is a good city for having eating options compared to other cities of similar size."

Kashif Hussain, 26, who works in marketing, said: "I think it's a fairly good location for it. It fits the vibe of what is already here, it's a cool place to be.

"There's a lot of choice around here if you want different types of food. A lot of people that come to the market are younger and like independent businesses."

Riz Khan, 30, who lives in Sneinton, added: "I think it will be very popular here, a lot of people would value a vegan supermarket in this part of the city. It is good to have another business next to the market too."
