New England Patriots star defensive player Matt Judon took to social media to express his dismay at being selected by the NFL for a drugs test.
Judos has established himself as one of the best edge rushing players in the league and currently has 14.5 sacks to his name. The 30-year-old starred on Monday Night Football as his 1.5 sacks helped the Patriots to a 27-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
His performance clearly didn’t go unnoticed by the NFL. After the win - which kept the Patriots in the playoff picture with a 7-6 record - Judon was sent a message by the league informing the linebacker that he had been selected for a Performance Enhancing Substance test.
Judon was clearly bemused by the news. He posted a screenshot of the message on Twitter, and called the NFL out for the ‘random’ drug test.
“Dear @NFLPA @NFL leave me the F alone please,” Judon tweeted along with the screenshot. “It’s no way this is random. I take melatonin to sleep sometimes. The rest is just vibes.”
To go with his 1.5 sacks in the win over the Cardinals, Judon registered four tackles - including one for a loss - and two quarterback pressures. Judon’s total of 14.5 sacks through 14 weeks is tied for the best in the NFL alongside San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa.
The NFL’s official policy regarding performance-enhancing substances declares 10 players from each franchise will be selected for testing at random by a computer program on a weekly basis rom the start of preseason through the regular season. However, several players have called out whether the testing is actually a random process.
Philadelphia Eagles star receiver AJ Brown registered six receptions, 156 yards and three touchdowns to help lift his team to a 35-13 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers back in October before he was called in for a drug test. He also took to Twitter to declare the testing process was ‘not random’.
As for Judon’s Patriots, the defence has been a bright spot in a rollercoaster year amid plenty of offensive struggles. Judon and his signature red sleeve continue to wreak havoc, and he will need to be at his best when the Pats travel to Las Vegas to take on the 5-8 Raiders on Sunday.
