The Government has confirmed that a new Emergency Alert will not sound today despite an earlier message on its website.
Earlier this week, an emergency alert was sent to mobile phones across the UK as part of a test. The loud alarm was scheduled to ring at 3pm on Sunday on all devices that were using 4G and 5G networks in the UK, but many people reported receiving their alert early, late or not at all.
Some annoyed people were woken up during the early hours of Monday morning when their phone rang loudly. The alert rang for 10 seconds and displayed a message notifying phone users that no action was needed in response to the test.

It is designed to warn the public if there is a danger to life nearby and will be used in the future for life-threatening situations including flooding and wildfires. However, the UK Government announced that a message saying another alert will be heard today, Tuesday 25 was put out in error.
The message on the website had read: "There will be a service test of the UK Emergency Alerts system today. Most mobile phones and tablets will not get a test alert."
However, this message has since been removed from the government website.
