A new street food venue in Leith that serves steamed buns have decided to do their own take on the classic deep fried mars bar.
Steam Bunny opened in the capital on May 9 and sells a selection of steamed buns from their food trailer in Leith.
Now they have started a unique take on the deep-fried mars bar with their “deep steamed mars bar”.

The idea is pretty simple, instead of covering a mars bar with beer batter and deep-frying it, they are wrapping them in dough and steaming them like they would with their other buns.
The result is a hot, melted mars bar covered in chewy steamed dough and people on Instagram seem to be intrigued by the new take on the Scottish classic.
The food trailer posted the creation on their Instagram account yesterday and it has so far gotten a positive response from locals.
One said: “Steamed and not deep fried? Cool idea, I wish I could try it!”
While another posted: “Wow! That’s proper Scottish, have to try it!”
The sweet concoction is made at the trailer and served in a paper wrap like the rest of their food for people to take away with them.
After opening at the start of the month, Steam Bunny began as a lockdown idea between two business partners Tomasz and Maciej.
They got the idea at the start of lockdown and the pair bought a trailer in early 2021. They have been working to renovate it since while waiting for the various certificates and permissions to come through so they can open.
The pair's goals have also been to produce as little waste as possible. They have made a small garden from recycled items and wooden pallets and made the decision to steam food so as to waste as little energy as possible.
They also try to purchase produce locally, buying their meat from the four generation family run butcher John Henderson’s.
In the future, they are planning on expanding their business to support local artists in Edinburgh. Giving them a venue to exhibit their work but, for now, they are focusing on getting Leith locals hooked on their steamed food.
They serve a selection of Euro-Asian-style steamed buns in a variety of flavours. Including pulled pork and cumin and Cauliflower, coconut and turmeric.
