A brand new documentary about the Irish Women's National soccer team is to air on RTE One next week. As the team prepare to take part in the upcoming FIFA World Cup the documentary takes a look at the inspiring collective and individual journey that has gotten them to this place.
The Road Down Under features in-depth interviews with the team and management, alongside behind the scenes footage, off-pitch lifestyle shoots, match highlights and personal archives. The documentary will dig deep into the team and personal histories of this ground-breaking squad.
The show will also take a closer look at the story of how the squad had to go on strike back in 2017 to improve training conditions and the treatment of the team. This act of bravery was rewarded when the team secured a spot in the FIFA World Cup last November.
The film tells an inspiring story of resilience, grit and determination that has ultimately received the reward it deserves. In The Road Down Under, these brilliant women comprehensively tell their story for the first time.
