New Diablo 4 beta teased by Activision Blizzard ahead of developer update stream

Despite Activision Blizzard previously ruling out there being another Diablo 4 beta, it is currently being teased ahead of tonight's developer update stream.

Last month's duo of Diablo 4 beta tests were incredibly successful. Activision Blizzard’s iconic hack-and-slash series has been on ice for going on a decade now, so it’s no surprise to see that players were eager to explore the entire first zone as all five character classes for two whole weekends. As you might imagine, this has led players on Xbox, PlayStation and PC clamouring for another opportunity to jump in ahead of its June 6, 2023 release date. Well, against what the dev team has said before, there’s a chance there might just be one.

Responding to a fan’s tweet earlier today who replied to the official Diablo Twitter account “need more diablo 4 game time having withdrawal”, the dev team in its own post responded with an ominous “that can be arranged…” message. This obviously leads us to believe that Activision Blizzard may potentially be planning a third beta ahead of when Diablo 4 officially releases, after previously stating that this wouldn’t be the case.

It’s worth noting that the game itself only went gold three days ago, again announced via a tweet on the official @Diablo account, meaning that the final version of Diablo 4 is content complete and physical discs are already being printed. As such, it’s highly unlikely that any feedback provided by fans during this hypothetical third beta period will be utilised to inform the final release. What it will do, however, is let players who previously missed out on the last beta – likely due to queuing and server issues – a chance to get a taste before Diablo 4 fully unleashes its hellish delights.

If there is a time to announce a new Diablo beta, it'll likely be during the upcoming Diablo 4 Developer Update livestream set to air on later today at 7pm BST / 2pm EDT / 11am PDT over on the official Diablo YouTube Channel.

Give you hell

Despite its darker approach to the world, characters and combat than even what we saw with Diablo 3, I immensely enjoyed what I played during the last Diablo 4 beta a couple of weeks ago. That said, I didn’t have the time to reach its level 25 cap, so I’d definitely be interested in jumping in again – if only to have another opportunity to acquire the Beta Wolf Pack cosmetic item. Because who wouldn’t want a little pup on their back as they fight the demons of hell?

If Activision Blizzard is teasing a third beta period as the tweet seems to suggest, it must be happening sometime soon because we already stand mere weeks away from its release date on June 6, 2023. You’d hope, too, that the servers have been stress tested enough so that a lot of the previous connection issues would have been resolved. If not, opting to give players another chance to test the game on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC would probably be a smart decision. Here’s hoping we hear more about the potential Diablo 4 beta sooner rather than later.
