A recently unearthed interview with JonBenet Ramsey's parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, conducted by Barbara Walters in 2000, sheds new light on the unsolved murder case of the 6-year-old pageant star that occurred in 1996. JonBenet was tragically found dead in the basement of her family's Boulder, Colorado, home the day after Christmas, and the case continues to captivate public interest.

In the interview, John Ramsey discusses the peculiar ransom note left by the killer, which demanded $118,000, a figure close to the bonus he had received that year. The significance of this amount remains a mystery, with Ramsey speculating that it holds meaning known only to the perpetrator.

Patsy Ramsey, who passed away in 2006, revealed that she was unaware of the exact sum of her husband's bonus at the time of the murder. John Ramsey, now 80, has expressed optimism about the new leadership at the Boulder Police Department (BPD) and has urged for a reevaluation of the evidence using advanced DNA technology.

Chief Stephen Redfearn, the fifth police chief at BPD to oversee the JonBenet Ramsey case, has been in discussions with the Ramsey family regarding the possibility of involving the FBI to retest evidence for potential external DNA. Notably, an unidentified male DNA sample discovered in 1997 has yet to be fully analyzed using modern techniques.

Key pieces of evidence, including the garrote around JonBenet's neck, the ransom note, a suitcase believed to be used by the killer, an unknown flashlight, and rope found in her brother's room, have never been thoroughly examined for DNA traces.

In 1999, a grand jury indicted both John and Patsy Ramsey for child abuse resulting in JonBenet's death, but the case was later dropped due to insufficient evidence. Despite the setbacks, John Ramsey remains committed to seeking justice for his daughter and has called for a transparent review of the case.

The Boulder Police Department has affirmed its ongoing dialogue with the Ramsey family and Chief Redfearn's dedication to pursuing all avenues in the investigation. The quest for answers in JonBenet Ramsey's tragic murder continues, fueled by renewed efforts to uncover the truth.
