Recent revelations shed light on a disturbing Iranian-backed plot to assassinate former President Trump, as well as President Biden or Nikki Haley. The plot involved a 46-year-old Pakistani man named Asif Merchant, who was charged with planning the assassination attempt. According to an FBI document made public, Merchant considered two methods to carry out the attack: up close in a crowd with a pistol (referred to as the 'indoor plan') or from a distance via sniper ('outdoor plan').
Senator Chuck Grassley disclosed that Merchant had been arrested just a day before the former president narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. Merchant, charged with murder for hire, reportedly surveilled Trump's rallies through video feeds to assess security measures.
The motive behind the plot is believed to be retaliation for the death of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. Grassley has reached out to various law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, DHS, Secret Service, and TSA, to inquire about the progress of the investigation into the alleged Iranian conspiracy.
These developments raise serious concerns, especially in light of the recent attempt on Trump's life in Butler. The intricate details of the plot underscore the need for heightened security measures and vigilance to thwart such threats in the future.
