New Democratic Super PAC Formed To Defend Election Integrity

Democratic presidential primary election in Greenville, South Carolina

A group of Democratic strategists has announced the launch of a new super PAC called Democracy Defenders PAC. The primary focus of this PAC is to provide support to state parties and allied groups in addressing legal challenges related to the election process.

The PAC aims to counter what they describe as an unprecedented assault on the American people's right to vote and have their votes fairly counted, particularly in the face of efforts by Donald Trump and his allies to undermine the electoral process.

Leading the group is Jim Messina, a veteran of former President Barack Obama's campaign, who will serve as the chair. Allegra Lawrence-Hardy, an attorney with experience in election law, including the Bush v. Gore case in 2000, will act as the chief legal adviser.

TJ Ducklo, who previously worked on President Joe Biden's campaign, will be the chief strategist for the new PAC. The group will also benefit from the expertise of a senior fellow from the Brookings Institute who will serve as an outside counsel.

With an initial budget of $10 million, the Democracy Defenders PAC plans to provide legal and messaging support to state parties and allied groups, with a particular focus on battleground states and down-ballot races. The group intends to continue fundraising efforts in the coming months to support their initiatives.

In addition to supporting election-related legal challenges, the PAC has stated its commitment to addressing efforts by what they refer to as 'bad actors' who seek to sow doubt about election results following the November voting.

Jim Messina emphasized the importance of the PAC's mission, stating, 'We are not messing around with this — too much is on the line and we’ve seen what Trump is capable of when he loses an election fair and square.'
