New date for Bolton Wanderers' trip to Sheffield Wednesday & Sheffield United impact on clash

Bolton Wanderers' trip to Hillsborough to take on Sheffield Wednesday appears to have been moved to a Friday evening kick-off.

The Owls and the Whites will lock horns in League One once again this campaign for the second season in a row. Wednesday ended last season fourth and bowed out of the play-offs against eventual winner Sunderland.

Wanderers meanwhile ended the campaign in ninth place upon their first season back in the third tier of English football. Ian Evatt's side will be aiming to close a gap of 10 points between them and the play-offs.

Both clubs will be seeking to be in the mix for promotion this season out of League One. It will prove to be another competitive division this campaign with the likes of Derby County, Barnsley, Peterborough United, MK Dons, Portsmouth, Wycombe Wanderers and Oxford United all seeking to be at the top end of the league.

Wanderers host Wednesday at the University of Bolton Stadium in the opening weeks of the season. Darren Moore's side will travel across the Pennines on Saturday, August 20.

The reverse fixture between the Owls and the Whites at Hillsborough was originally pencilled in for Saturday, March 18. But the game has now been moved to Friday, March 17, for a 7.45pm, according to both clubs' websites.

The game has moved owing to a Sheffield United game taking place on that Saturday. The Blades take on West Bromwich Albion at Bramall Lane at 3pm.

The game has had to be moved owing to cities and towns with two teams in them not being able to play on the same day. It was a quirk of the fixtures being released that both Sheffield clubs were due to be at home on Saturday, March 18.

A statement on the Blades' website said that it was down to Wednesday to change the date for the clash with Bolton. Both club websites are now showing the game as a 7.45pm kick-off on Friday, March 17.
