New claims say Prince Andrew 'lobbied hard' to prevent Charles becoming king

A new book claims that Prince Andrew “lobbied hard” to prevent his brother, Charles, from becoming king.

It comes as Andrew received plenty of attention amid the passing of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, who was laid to rest on Monday.

An “explosive” new biography is said to tell all about how Andrew did not want Charles to be king and how Camilla, the Queen Consort, won over senior royals.

The uneasy relationship between King Charles and Andrew is not uncommon. Usually, there is contention and rifts between the first and second in line of succession.

The brothers are also said to have different personalities, values and approaches to life. They certainly don’t always share the same viewpoint.

An abridged extract from ‘Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall: From Outcast to Queen Consort’, shared by The Telegraph, showed how a senior insider told the author, Angela Levin, that when Diana was alive, through her friendship with Andrew’s wife Sarah, she "plotted with Andrew to try to push Prince Charles aside" so that Andrew could become Regent to Prince William, who at the time was a teenager.

It meant Andrew "lobbied hard" with the hope that it would mean Charles would not become king when his mother died, and that William would wear the crown instead.

His behaviour was said to be "very, very negative and extremely unpleasant" to the Queen, who disagreed with him, and it marked a rare occasion where Andrew didn't get what he wanted.

The same royal source stated that Andrew was one of several whom the late sovereign asked for advice around Charles marrying Camilla.

It is said that Andrew tried to persuade the Queen to block Charles marrying Camilla by being "quite poisonous, mean, unhelpful and very nasty about Camilla".

It's doubtful as to whether Prince Andrew has ever been forgiven due to his continued hostility towards Camilla.

Andrew was at the centre of much of the discourse surrounding the Queen’s funeral, when he was invited to wear his military uniform during a vigil inside Westminster Hall as the late monarch lay in state.

The decision was made by his brother, King Charles, although he was ultimately stopped from wearing it during the Queen's state funeral procession on Monday.

The Duke of York. 62, is no longer a working royal and was also forced to wear civilian clothes as he followed his late mother's procession to Westminster Hall last Wednesday.

The Queen stripped him of all of his honorary military roles, including Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, and he gave up his HRH title.

He did, however, keep his rank as a Vice Admiral and wore his medals pinned on to a dress suit.
