New Chelsea loan expected as Cesar Casadei impresses and Burnley handed Ian Maatsen injury worry

It's been a trying time at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea, with a poor run of form leading to mounting pressure on Graham Potter. But elsewhere, a number of Blues players are impressing on their time away from the club.

Chelsea's loan army may not be quite as large as in recent years, but there are still plenty of stars with ties to Stamford Bridge performing week in, week out for teams across Europe and further afield.

Here, football.london takes a look at how that contingent have managed across the last seven days.

Nathan Baxter - The goalkeeper has not been named in Hull's EFL squad for the remainder of the season as he recovers from injury with Chelsea.

Eddie Beach - The young goalkeeper spent time training at Cobham this week before he played in Chelmsford City's 1-0 defeat to Ebbsfleet United.

Jamie Cumming - The 23-year-old once again started for MK Dons but could not prevent his side falling to a 1-0 defeat against Ipswich

Cumming reflected on one goalmouth scramble and the game: "It was ridiculous, and it summed up the game. We need those chances to go in and I’m sure on another day they will.

"Last week we were too easy to score against and not many of us have had weeks like that. I’ve certainly not conceded ten goals in two games before, it’s not something you want, and it was a tough one to take."

Teddy Sharman-Lowe - Teddy Sharman-Lowe played for Havant & Waterlooville but was unable to stop them falling to a 2-0 defeat away to Hemel Hempstead.

Max Merrick - Merrick helped Hanwell Town through to the semi-final of the Middlesex Charity Cup semi-final following a penalty shootout against Spelthorne Sports club. At the weekend he was on the bench for a 1-0 defeat to Hayes and Yeading.

Malang Sarr - The French defender played as part of a back three as Monaco lost 3-0 to Nice.

Ethan Ampadu - The Wales ace helped Spezia earn a 2-2 draw away to Udinese in Seria A.

Levi Colwill - On Monday, Roberto de Zerbi confirmed that Levi Colwill was back training with Brighton's first team following his return from injury. The 20-year-old is still a week or two away from featuring in a match however.

Bashir Humphreys - Picked up a yellow card as Paderborn drew with Holstein Kiel.

Malo Gusto - The defender continues his rehabilitation on his hamstring injury.

Henry Lawrence - The MK Dons loanee returned to the starting XI for defeat to Ipswich after an injury to Daniel Harvie.

Ian Maatsen - Maatsen was enjoying another impressive game for Burnley before he required a stretcher to leave the field after suffering a shoulder injury against Huddersfield Town before the hour mark. The severity of the injury remains to be seen with Vincent Kompany expecting to find out on Monday how long Maatsen will be out for.

He said: "I'll find out now as I’m driving to the training ground. For these type of situations we’ll have to be able to use the squad a little bit and make sure that we don’t lose more players due to injury. We've been a little bit unfortunate with freak events.

"Our medical staff have been working around the clock and doing extremely well bringing them back but we’ve got to make sure we stay competitive in the next few weeks."

Sam McClelland - The Northern Ireland defender played as part of a back three as Barrow defeated Stockport 1-0.

Baba Rahman - Missed Reading's clash against Blackpool through injury.

Dujon Sterling - The defender put in a solid display as Stoke lost 1-0 to Millwall.

Tino Anjorin - The midfielder remains registered on loan at Huddersfield Town but is expected to remain out for the season following his ankle surgery.

Tiemoue Bakayoko - Having made his first appearance last week, Bakayoko returned to his place on Milan's bench.

Xavier Simons - The midfield retained his spot in the Hull City starting XI but was unable to match his performance against Preston but grew into the game as the Tigers lost 1-0 to Bristol City.

Cesare Casadei - The Italian midfielder earned his second start for the Royals and appears to have responded to Paul Ince's call as it was a much improved outing.

Ince said following the game: "I was really pleased with Casadei. I brought him back in [to the starting XI]. When you come in from a foreign country like Italy, the tempo of the football is a lot different to Championship football. He's needed that extra few weeks in training to get that tempo and you saw that against Blackpool.

"You can see he is getting there, though, and sometimes you look and wish he was our player! But he's not. he has to go back to Chelsea. He did really, really well and he'll get better."

Romelu Lukaku - The Belgian forward started in Inter's 1-0 defeat to Bologna before being replaced by Edin Dzeko after 64 minutes. He was also in action in midweek, scoring the Italian side's late winner against Porto in the Champions League.

Callum Hudson-Odoi - Hudson-Odoi has remained on the bench for Bayer Leverkusen's penalty shooutout win over Monaco and their draw against SC Freiburg.

A further loan to come - Having seen his loan to Palmeiras fall through it appears that Andrey Santos could return to Vasco da Gama on loan having signed from the club in January. Reports suggest the move would see him play in the under-20 World Cup and possibly return to the Blues in pre-season.
