New cafe and bar offering 2 breakfasts for £10 opens in Nottinghamshire village

A new bar and cafe offering breakfast all day has opened in a Nottinghamshire village. KC Cafe has now taken over the former Wrinkly Lettuce in Main Street, Gedling.

Part of the team that has set up the eatery is Karen Beck, who has worked at a number of venues in the village. She hopes the new family business will be a 'nice little place’ for people to pop into.

She said: “This is our first shop, we’re local and used to work at the pub across the road. We’ve lived in the area all our lives.”

The pub mentioned is Willowbrook. On the first day of opening, on April 3, it was non-stop. Karen said: “We were very busy, we’re still gauging it.

“At the minute, we’re open 7 days a week.” In addition to the day-long breakfast offering, the menu includes paninis, jacket potatoes, cakes and more. The prices are affordable, too, with an offer of 2 small breakfasts for just £10.

Karen added: “It’s never banging in Gedling, it’s a quiet little village but at the cafe, there’s always someone in. We’re still figuring out what people want and then they’ll be daily specials.”

The former Wrinkly Lettuce got planning permission for outdoor space to be used by customers and Karen is determined to try again. Currently, the space outside is cordoned off.

Karen added: “Inside isn’t finished just yet, we’ll be adding flower panels and trellis plants. It’ll be prettier in the summer when people will be eating out the front. We just want to create a nice little place people can come to, we’re dog friendly and we know a lot of people in the area too who wave by as they go past.”

KC Cafe, which is also licensed to sell alcohol, is open 8am-9pm.

Conservative MP for Gedling, Tom Randall, said: “It is always good to see new businesses opening up across Gedling and I am delighted that KC’s Café opened on Main Road Gedling this Monday. It is great that this new family-run business joins a community with well-established and supported shops.

“I look forward to visiting KC’s Café for a spot of lunch soon and wish the owners well.”
