A new bowling group for blind and partially sighted people will be starting in Airdrie this Thursday (April 21).
The organisation's leader, volunteer Sharon Moncrieff, has sight loss condition severe cone dystrophy - and knows how important clubs like this are for people with limited or no sight.
She told Lanarkshire Live : "We are really looking forward to playing.
"I started this group as I wanted adults who are visually impaired or blind to be able to play lawn bowls in their local area and now those in Airdrie and the surrounding areas can do that."
The group is supported by volunteers and directors who help bowlers know how they have played.
When a visually impaired bowler takes their turn, they will be told where their bowl has landed, using wording like on a clock face.
For example, a director might tell them, "12 o'clock, two yards," and they will know they are in line with the jack but two yards away.
Gordon, 53, a member of the group who has retinal detachment, said: "I bowl for the company, to get out and about, enjoy it and meet other people with eye conditions. It gives me a new challenge."
Some members have previously been playing bowls at the Coatbridge Indoors Bowls Club, but the new group sessions will be taking advantage of the warmer weather and moving to play outside.
The organisation will meet at the Airdrie Bowling Club every Thursday from April 21, from 10am until 12 noon.
Anyone interested in joining up can contact Sharon on 07906 329 188.
The volunteer-led bowling group has been developed in collaboration with Scottish Disability Sports, RNIB, Bowls Scotland and South Lanarkshire Disability Sports.
RNIB Scotland hosts many different sport and leisure groups with blind or partially sighted people; full details can be found via the RNIB Scotland Community Connect team online.
