
A Kamome (Seagull) Shinkansen train departs from JR Nagasaki Station a little after 6 a.m. on Friday. The train's trip marked the opening of the 66-kilometer-long Nishi-Kyushu line connecting Nagasaki and Takeo Onsen Station in Takeo City, Saga Prefecture. A local express train and the new Shinkansen will carry riders between Hakata Station in Fukuoka City and Nagasaki Station in as little as 1 hour 20 minutes, cutting journey times by about 30 minutes.
