New Binos striker admits rekindles passion for game - and declares himself up for promotion fight

Greig Spence admits he had to spend some time away from the SPFL grind to recapture his hunger for the game – but he insists he’s back with fire in his belly ready to toast a Binos’ promotion success.

The experienced striker counts Raith Rovers, Alloa Athletic and Stenhousemuir among his former clubs but was last turning out for local club Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts in an effort to get some crucial game time.

His time with the Fife club ended in November and Stirling gaffer Darren Young was soon on the blower to bring Spence down to Forthbank to help add firepower to his promotion-pushing squad.

Spence said: “I’ve known the gaffer for years and I became available from the team I was at and he knew my situation.

“He got in touch and I had quite a few offers to be fair but the minute I saw what the club was all about, it felt like a bit of a no-brainer to get down here and get signed up.

“I was at Stenhousemuir about 18 months ago and then I dropped out of the pyramid and played locally in the East of Scotland Premier.

“I just had a season of playing every week and got my confidence and love for the game back before I knew I was ready to step back up to the level I probably should be at.”

The 30-year-old finally made his Binos debut off of the bench on Saturday after an almost month-long wait and looked sharp as the home side notched up a battling 1-0 win.

Spence admits it was a frustrating wait but admits he’s looking forward to joining an already talented Stirling frontline.

He added: “It feels great. It’s about five weeks since I signed and you come with a bit of momentum and hit the ground running but that’s been frustrating.

“It’s been good because I’ve come in and got to know the boys. It’s not a totally new team for me and I know how they play and how they want me to play. The chance to get on the pitch and get the win was the most important thing.

“A lot of folk want to come into a club and play straight away but it’s good that there is competition and the team is playing well because I can push them on.

“We have three good, experienced strikers at this level and that can only be a benefit for the team.”
