New B&Q store to open in Scottish village following shop closure

A NEW B&Q store is set to open next month in the Borders following the closure of the current Galashiels shop.

The new 20,000-square-foot site will open its doors on Friday, February 28, at Gateway Drive.

The current Low Buckholmside store will close on Saturday, February 8, with existing staff relocating to the new facility.

David McPhearson, unit manager, said: “We can’t wait to welcome our customers into the new store and showcase what it has to offer.

“Having been in the Galashiels area for 35 years, B&Q is an important part of the town, and we are excited to be able to bring a more modern offering to our customers with some great and updated features including the timber saw cutting service which will be a popular addition.”

The click-and-collect service will continue at the Low Buckholmside store from February 9 until the new shop opens.

It will offer more than 35,000 products, a kitchen and bathroom showroom, tools, hardware, paint and décor, a garden centre and a timber cutting service.

There will also be a Tradepoint area for trade customers.

The new store will be heated using solar panels which will generate electricity and have onsite battery storage.
