New app-based broadband provider offers three-month free trial to households in Glasgow and Renfrewshire

Scottish households keen to make extra savings in a bid to boost their bank balance during the ongoing cost of living crisis may be able to reduce their annual broadband package by more than £100 by taking up a new offer from a Glasgow-founded Internet Services Provider (ISP).

Brillband is the company behind the ‘world’s first’ app-based broadband technology and is offering internet users in Glasgow and Renfrewshire the opportunity to sign up for a three-month trial - worth £35 each month - when the service becomes available in their area later this year. A waiting list to sign up for the free trial is now open.

The pioneering technology will enable consumers to control their connection to the 1GB, full-fibre service from their mobile phone or tablet device. The Brillband trial is being offered ahead of the full launch of the ultra-fast service, which creator and Brillband CEO Duncan Di Biase says will change the way people think about broadband.

The broadband entrepreneur also hopes the trial will help hard-hit households cope with ever-increasing energy bills and soaring inflation.

He said: “The broadband industry standard to this point has been the faster the speed, the higher the price. You only need to look at BT or Virgin’s broadband packages to see that your prices will increase after your contract ends.

“And as for what’s hidden in the fine print, consumers are regularly met with annual price hikes based on contractual terms they weren’t made fully aware of.”

He explained that at Brillband they will be doing things differently.

Di Biase explained: “It’s one speed, the highest we can offer, at one reasonable price. It’s about fairness, transparency and simplicity.”

Brillband’s one speed is an impressive 900Mbps, for £35 per month, on an 18-month contract once the three-month free trial ends.

Di Biase continued: “Consumer websites such as MoneySavingExpert.com, warn customers against going for higher-speed packages purely on price. That shouldn’t need to be the case and that’s what we’re trying to change.”

He explained: “Ultimately, people just want broadband that works for their needs - for browsing, gaming, downloads, or working from home - with no fuss at a fair price.”

And the entrepreneur has high ambitions, hoping to see Brillband become one of the “most-loved” providers.

He said: “I want Brillband to become Europe’s most loved broadband provider, but it all starts but it all starts here in Glasgow and Renfrewshire.”

Brillband’s unique selling point, which may appeal to many people keen to cut their household spending, lies in the fixed-price, flat-fee for ultra-fast speeds - which is around £15 cheaper than comparable 1GB FTTP (Fibre To The Premises) connection packages available from other providers.

Brillband is also focused on a fair deal for employees, and is currently recruiting for customer service operatives who will be paid £25,000 per annum - more than 20% above the UK broadband industry average of £20,000 per year.
