New apartment block at Filton Airfield development starts to take shape

A new landmark apartment building is starting to take shape at the Brabazon neighbourhood housing development. Known as The Dials, the new block of flats located at the Filton Airfield site has now ‘topped out’ completing a major milestone in the development.

To ‘top out’ means the building structure has been completed and has reached its full height, although the building itself is still under construction.

The Brabazon neighbourhood, which will eventually include the new Bristol Arena, is taking shape three years after developer YTL first began construction. Last year YTL unveiled plans to increase the number of new homes at the site to more than 6,500, with tower blocks in the central part of the vast site.

The development is being built in stages. The second phase of the Brabazon project will see new houses and apartments built on the northern side of the Filton Airfield site, following on from phase one which is known as ‘The Hangar District’ by developers. This second phase includes The Dials apartment building.

The Dials will include a collection of studio, one, two and three-bedroom flats which are already on sale, with their completion expected during 2024. It has been designed by local architects, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, and will include warmed by underfloor heating beneath its oak-floored living areas, porcelain-tiled bathrooms and carpeted bedrooms, the homes will feature high ceilings and picture windows to let in maximum natural light.

And each will have access to a range of outdoor spaces, from communal gardens to private balconies and terraces – in addition to the enormous public park being laid out nearby .

Director at YTL Developments, Jon McDiarmid said: “The new apartments at Brabazon are unlike anything else available at the moment. Designed by award winning architects, every property offers more space, more flexibility with much, much more included as standard.

"Now that the building frame has reached its full height, it is the perfect time for interested homebuyers to see it for themselves at out first ‘Muddy Boots’ Day. There’s nothing quite like standing in a new apartment to get a sense of the lifestyle on offer within the new community at Brabazon,” he said.

The old Filton Airfield is currently being transformed with the Barabazon development. The former airfield has a historic background as home to the Hurricane in WW2 and the birthplace of Concorde and supersonic travel. Brabazon is being developed as a new neighbourhood for Bristol, which will include the new YTL Arena complex.

Over £100 million is being invested to improve local infrastructure. In the plans is a new railway station to connect Brabazon to Temple Meads and a dedicated metrobus to the city centre, as well as walking routes and cycle paths.

Potential purchasers are invited to a ‘Muddy Boots’ Day at the site on Saturday, May 13 and will have the chance to check out the views from the new building.
