New Anfield Jurgen Klopp mural painted by amazing street artist with one arm

A self-taught street artist who lost his arm in a childhood accident has spray painted a mural of Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp on the wall of an Anfield bar.

John Culshaw has spent the last few days spray painting a mural of the famous German on the wall of Klopp's Boot Room in Anfield.

He completed the mural over several days and was not helped by the torrential rain which drenched the city on Friday.

The 32-year-old lost his arm as a nine-year-old when he was hit by a speeding car.

John was catapulted through the windscreen of the car and suffered appalling injuries.

John said that he had tried to move on from losing an arm as a child.

He said: "I was hit by a car and nearly died. But the doctors managed to put most of me back together again. But I just went back to school and got on with it. I don't look back."

But he eventually recovered and was able to lead an active life.  He became a painter and decorator, and then a street artist. John uses spray paints to create murals of well known characters across the city.

John, who grew up in Page Moss,  spoke to the ECHO about his project in Anfield.

He said: "Yes its a pleasure to work on Klopp because I am a huge Liverpool FC fan.

"I would say he is our best manager since Shankly - he is to us what Ferguson was to United in the 80s and 90s. He is the best thing at Anfield and bigger than any player.

"I obviously want him to stay at the club for as long as possible and this mural is a personal tribute to him from me."

John explained how he became involved in street art several years ago.

He said: "A friend asked me to do a Spiderman on the wall of his son's bedroom.

"It was small scale but I suppose that was my first job. I later won the chance of complete a graffiti project in Manchester, and then moved on from there."

John now has his own studio space in the Walton area, and wants to start doing larger scale projects. He said: "My uncle Robbie runs the Rydal gym in Kirkdale.

"So I will be doing some work there soon.

"The Rydal has a magnificent wall and I would love to be able to do a Sugar Ray Robinson or similar boxing icon. But I would need some help with the funding."

John completed a project based around two of the Bluebell's estate's more famous sons.

He said: "Josh at the Bluebell Barbers in Huyton asked me to do and Peter Reid - as they both grew up on the estate. I later received a nice message from Steven on Instagram which I really appreciated. I am not sure Peter is on social media."

John said that he did not see himself as Liverpool's answer to Banksy.

He said: "Yes Banksy is great but that is not me - his work is far more political than mine."
