New Aldi store officially opens in Stapleford - three years after permission was given

Three years after it was granted planning permission, a new Aldi store has officially opened in Stapleford.

The Nottingham Road store is the first Aldi to open in the area and will be run by manager Kevin Males, along with a team of 30 colleagues.

The first 30 customers through the door received a complimentary bag of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s Super 6 range.

Olympic Gold Medallist, Kat Copeland, cut the red ribbon to officially open the new store on Thursday, November 28.

The new store will offer large chillers and freezers for meat products, a ‘Food to Go’ section at the front of the store, a fixture along the back wall showcasing beer, wine and spirits, and a selection of health and beauty products.

The new supermarket was given the go-ahead by Broxtowe Borough Council in 2016, with the condition 10 homes had to be built as well.

Since 2016, Aldi applied to Broxtowe Borough Council twice for the 10 new homes condition to be removed - but this was been rejected on both occasions.

Store Manager, Kevin Males, said: “It’s been a fantastic morning here at our grand opening. It was lovely to meet our new customers and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks.

"I’d also like to say a big thank you to the wonderful Kat Copeland, for being a part of our celebrations.”

The Team GB star added: “It’s been an honour to be a part of Aldi’s store opening. I’ve had a great time talking to both the adults and children of Stapleford about healthy eating and my experience of the Olympics.”

During opening week the store will be offering Christmas goodies for Kevin the Carrot's biggest fans, including giant soft toys of Kevin and Katie for £19.99, wrapping paper, Christmas cards and Christmas tree decorations from £1.99, as well as family Kevin the Carrot matching pyjamas starting from £4.99.

The new store is inn Nottingham Road, Stapleford and is open Monday to Saturday 8am to 10pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
