A new 50p coin released by The Royal Mint is already being sold for hundreds of pounds more than it's retail price.
The Royal Mint, official maker of UK coins, recently revealed a collectable 50p coin to celebrate ten years since the release of The Snowman and The Snowdog. The 50p coin celebrating the heart-warming story of The Snowman and The Snowdog sees Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait feature on the obverse (heads) side of the coin.
Following the popularity of The Snowman coin series, the 2022 design tells the story of a boy, Billy, who discovers the original snowman-making kit hidden under his bedroom floorboards. Billy builds the snowman and, with a little leftover snow, a snowdog. That night, the two come to life and Billy joins them on an adventure.

For the fifth consecutive year, illustrator Robin Shaw has worked with The Royal Mint, to produce the design celebrating The Snowman and The Snowdog. The Royal Mint has introduced digital colour printing technology to bring the design to life, keeping true to the hand drawn, nostalgic quality of Robin Shaw’s original sketches.
Royal Mint has priced The Snowman and The Snowdog 2022 UK 50p Gold Proof at £1,195. The 50p Silver Proof Coloured is £69.50. The Brilliant Uncirculated Colour is £20 and the 50p Brilliant Uncirculated is £11.

However, on eBay, users are already selling the coins at a higher price than their RRP. The gold proof coin is listed for £1,995 - £800 more than the same coin on Royal Mint.
The silver proof coloured coin is also priced on eBay at £175 - a £105.50 difference. And the brilliant uncirculated colour 50p is priced at £40 on some eBay listings - double what Royal Mint is asking.
