Kilmarnock's brand new £4 million climbing centre is to close for the remainder of the year, it has been announced this afternoon.
Despite opening in May this year, the Above Adventure facility will close on July 31 with hopes of re-opening in early 2023.
The centre was partially opened a few months ago with the bouldering hall being opened to the public while work on the climbing wall continued.
But the charity say the decision was not financially viable and the centre will have to close until building work is completed at the former Grange Church.
A statement from Above Adventures reads: "We regret to inform you that the Above Adventure bouldering hall will close to the public with effect from 6pm on July 31, 2022.
"Pre-booked groups and instructor-led sessions (including the kids’ summer activity sessions for pre-booked participants) will continue until Friday, August 12.
"Monthly subscriptions will not be renewed. Partial refunds will be offered for any subscriptions extending beyond July 31. Refunds for punch cards and gift cards, which will not be used prior to August 1, are available at reception up to July 31. Thereafter, refunds should be arranged by contacting reception@aboveadventure.co.uk.
"Because of delays caused by the covid pandemic, a decision was made to partially open the climbing centre before full completion. In the event, this has not proved to be financially viable for the charity.
"The centre will remain closed until completion of the building project, and pending a full opening, currently anticipated in early 2023.
"We apologise for any disappointment caused to our users and supporters."
The Above Adventure project has a variety of host partners backing the project, including East Ayrshire Council.
