A miracle pill which is claimed to cure hangovers has been launched in the UK, helping Brits get back on their feet after a night out.
Experts say the new pill, which is taken before you drink, stops the body absorbing alcohol, protecting you from a hangover for the next 12 hours.
Called Myrkl, it’s a mix of probiotics and made from the human body’s own natural bacteria. Grimsby Live reported .
Combined with amino acid, L-Cysteine and Vitamin B12 the trio work together to help breakdown alcohol’s toxic by-products into carbon dioxide and water.
Researchers have demonstrated that people who drank two glasses of wine after taking the pill, which costs £1, had on average 50 per cent less alcohol in their blood after 30 minutes.
After an hour this rose to 70 per cent.
The pill took three decades to develop by Swedish medical company De Faire Medical.
Håkan Magnusson, the company’s chief executive, said: “While Myrkl is in no way designed as an excuse to drink beyond NHS guidelines, nor does it stop you getting drunk, we are really convinced Myrkl is a game-changing product for those regular moderate drinkers.”
And Dr Dawn Harper, an NHS GP and co-presenter of TV show Embarrassing Bodies, thinks the pill has huge potential.
But she stressed that it wouldn’t benefit the heavier drinkers in the UK.
“If you want to go out and get drunk, Myrkl would simply mean it would take you a lot longer and cost you a lot more,” she said.
“Where I see Myrkl could be relevant is for the huge number of moderate drinkers in the UK."
At present, the new drug is only available through the the company's website and costs £30 for 30 tablets.
