Neville Southall has called on the Everton board to back Frank Lampard - both by keeping him in the job and supporting him in the January transfer market.
Pressure on Lampard intensified significantly following Tuesday evening's dismal 4-1 defeat at home to Brighton and Hove Albion. The Toffees went into the break 1-0 down and still in the game despite a poor half, but complete collapse saw three goals conceded in six second-half minutes.
Boos and chants of 'sack the board' engulfed a furious Goodison Park, with many fans leaving for the exits early. The Everton players stayed on the pitch to clap the fans but were met with palpable anger from those who stayed until the end.

RATINGS: Everton player ratings as Idrissa Gueye and three others dreadful in sorry mess against Brighton
A third successive home defeat has ramped up pressure on Lampard, who relied on a fervent Goodison Park to help his side avoid relegation last season but has seen his side take just eight points at home thus far.
But former Toffee Southall has shared his thoughts, urging those in charge on Merseyside to back the manager with quality additions this month.
He tweeted: "If the board sack Lampard it’s another failure by them. If they back him then give him a chance to buy quality.
"Me personally would rather him stay. He maybe responsible for the players but at end of day they owe it too themselves to perform. Personal responsibility Is everything."
Defeat means Everton could end this week in the bottom three, should both West Ham and Wolves win their games against Leeds United and Aston Villa respectively tomorrow.
