It was a game of nearly moments, half chances and disallowed goals at Wembley on Sunday night, where neither Chelsea or Liverpool could take control of a lively Carabao Cup final.
The game replicated a similar tempo to that of the match between the two sides back in January, which ended 2-2 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
The Blues thought they took the lead in the first-half of extra-time at the home of English football through Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian striker looked back to his best during the move, spinning Virgil van Dijk before slotting home a chance from inside the box.
However, the goal was disallowed by the linesman, though when VAR checked, it appeared a close call.
The decision was crucial to the result, with the game going all the way to penalties, with Chelsea losing 11-10 after Kepa Arrizabalaga's miss from the spot.
The decision summed up the game as a whole, with neither Thomas Tuchel or Jurgen Klopp’s men taking the game out of the reach of each other, though it wasn’t for a lack of trying.
Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount both missed glorious chances to open the scoring either side of a fantastic double save from Edouard Mendy to deny Naby Keita and then Sadio Mane from close-range.
The second-half saw similar, with Mount hitting the post before Joel Matip’s headed goal was ruled out for an offside in the build-up.
Kai Havertz then had his own goal disallowed, peering over his shoulder after scoring to see the linesman’s flag raised swiftly after. The German then had another disallowed in extra-time after Lukaku’s goal was also chalked off for offside.
The Lukaku one in particular riled some fans up, with many taking to social media in the belief that it should have counted.
@Musgravearron: “Marked the offside line from his elbow?”
