Some of Hollywood's biggest names were spotted across the West Country coast filming blockbuster hit Never Let Me Go in 2009. The film follows the lives of three friends, from their early school days into young adulthood, when the reality of the world they live in comes knocking.
Locations across North Somerset were utilised, with Clevedon Pier being used for much of the promotional shoot, as can be seen in the movie's poster. During filming, Hollywood stars Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield were spotted eating sausage, egg and chips at the Regent Restaurant just off the seafront in Weston-super-Mare.
Whilst security had much of the area wrapped up, some lucky passers-by still managed to catch a glimpse of the future Spiderman and Pirates of the Caribbean stars. Production teams also used the nearby Salisbury Terrace for other shoots, reports Somerset Live.

Keira Knightley was also captured on Clevedon beach, dressed in an old-style school uniform. Keira spent the day shooting scenes on the Grade I listed pier. Also spotted alongside her was Carey Mulligan, who played alongside Knightley as students in a dystopian Britain, where humans are cloned to provide donor organs for transplants.
Whilst in Clevedon, the national press had gathered, with snaps of the stars being posted to the Daily Mail, causing quite some attention. Elsewhere in Clevedon, a shop on Hill Road was also converted into a travel agency for more filming.
The film was received well by critics, with the Box Office Magazine stating that: "The drama boasts a stellar cast, exquisite performances and a tense atmosphere. It is a film that the author's fans and lovers of mature, measured storytelling will embrace."
The LA Times gave the picture 80/100, stating: "This is a moving and provocative film that initially unsettles, then disturbs and finally haunts you well into the night."
Just last week it was announced that the movie, directed by Mark Romanek, has been commissioned by US TV channel FX for a small screen adaptation of the film. The new series is set to be written by Melissa Iqbal who is best known for writing on “The Nevers,” the HBO science-fiction drama from Joss Whedon. Searchlight TV will be producing the series for FX, along with DNA Films, who also produced the film. As with other FX series, expect to see this series air on FX and Hulu in the US, and released internationally on Disney+.
