'Never again!': Man Utd and Liverpool fans fume as severe traffic delays see them miss pre-season game

Hundreds of Manchester United and Liverpool fans stranded outside the Premier League giants' pre-season friendly in South Carolina due to traffic problems.

Liverpool and United faced off at the Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, attracting thousands of fans to the 77,500-seater stadium.

But many supporters were stuck in traffic outside the ground, missing the majority of the first half as Fabio Carvalho and Curtis Jones gave Liverpool a deserved 2-0 lead.

One fan trying to attend the game wrote on X: "1.5 hours in traffic and still not in the game. NEVER AGAIN!"

Another attending the game observed fans running into the stadium long after kick-off as they tried to reach their seats.

Matt Dowell wrote: "Traffic is still at a stand-still outside Williams-Brice Stadium with tons of people still running in.

"This traffic today is up there with a Football/State Fair Saturday in Columbia."

Williams-Brice Stadium, the home stadium for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, was not selected as a host stadium for the 2026 World Cup.
