Nets’ Ben Simmons Out for Rest of Season with Nerve Issue in Back

The Brooklyn Nets have ruled Ben Simmons out for the rest of the 2023–24 season due to a nerve issue in his back.

Simmons has played in just 15 games this season. In 23.9 minutes per contest, he averaged 6.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game on 58.1% shooting from the floor.

“Ben Simmons will remain out for the remainder of the season while he consults with specialists and explores treatment options for the nerve impingement in his lower back,” the Nets said in a statement. “Simmons, along with his representatives and Nets medical personnel, are currently in discussions with numerous experts to determine the course of action that will provide him with the best opportunity for long-term sustainable health.”

Availability has been an issue for Simmons over the course of his eight-year NBA career. Simmons has missed two full seasons: his first year with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2016-17 and also the 2021-22 season.

Brooklyn Nets point guard Ben Simmons has played in just 57 total games over the past three seasons.

The veteran wing has played just 57 games total over the past three years, and he hasn’t played more than 58 games in a single season since 2018–19, his third season in the league.

Simmons and the Nets now will explore what’s next for him amid another health issue in hopes that he can be a contributor next season in the final year of his contract.
