A Nations League third-place play-off is what faces the Netherlands and Italy before they can enjoy their summer holidays.
Hosting these finals, the Netherlands were unable to make the most of home advantage as they were beaten by Croatia in extra-time in the last four, having struck in the 96th-minute to send the match to an extra 30 minutes.
Italy were edged out by Spain, with Joselu striking two minutes from time to leave Roberto Mancini’s side playing for a consolation prize that is unlikely to get either side particularly excited.
This is the second Nations League tournament in a row that Italy have been in the third-place play-off, winning 2-1 against Belgium in Turin back in 2021 after once again losing to Spain in the semi-finals.
