The 2023 Nations League finals kicked off in Rotterdam on Wednesday night as Croatia secured a dramatic 4-2 win over the Netherlands.
A dramatic 90 minutes saw Donyell Malen fire the Dutch ahead, perhaps against the run of play. However, Croatia fought back in the second half with goals from Andrej Kramaric, via the penalty spot after Cody Gakpo fouled Luka Modric, and then a late Mario Pasalic strike for 2-1. Yet, Noa Lang struck in the 96th minute.
Croatia still pulled off the win with a classic performance in extra time, Bruno Petkovic firing in from range early on before Luka Modric made it 4-2 late on following a rash challenge in the box by Tyrell Malacia on Petkovic. Spain or Italy await Zlatko Dalic’s men, tonight backed by 14,000 travelling fans, in Sunday’s final.
